"...Finally, preliminary research shows that marriage education workshops can make a real difference in helping married couples stay together and in encouraging unmarried couples who are living together to form a more lasting bond. Expanding access to such services to low income couples, perhaps in concert with job training and placement, medical coverage, and other services already available, SHOULD BE SOMETHING EVERYBODY CAN AGREE ON." ~Barack Obama, President

Marriage Education

Research indicates that providing couples with marriage/relationship education and communication skills equips the couples to communicate more effectively, manage conflict better, and work in agreement with each other to improve the quality of family life. Strengthening parent or couple relationships and equipping engaged couples, or individuals, with tools and skills designed to promote successful relationships is expected to provide healthier environments for children to be raised.

Twogether in Texas

To encourage couples to access premarital education, The State of Texas enacted new legislation reducing the marriage license fee for couples who complete eight hours of research-based premarital education. The legislation also enabled the Texas Health and Human Service Commission to contract with Regional Intermediaries to build the capacity for healthy marriage services. These initiatives form the core of the “Twogether In Texas” program. The Legacy Group was selected to build capacity and manage the delivery of marriage education in the Central Region of Texas.

Central Region

The Legacy group, is managing the delivery of healthy marriage education throughout Central Texas, covering 30 counties from Hill county in the North to Caldwell and Fayette counties to the South, and from Madison county to San Saba county, including Brazos, McLennan, Bell and Travis counties. Delivery of premarital and healthy marriage education services is offered through a variety of community and/or faith-based organizations and through service providers working in the area of healthy marriage development.
